Women in Accounting #BeBoldForChange
Today, people around the world are celebrating International Women’s Day – a global day recognizing the social, economic, cultural and political achievements of women. And while we recognize the incredible contribution the women of Acuity make on a daily basis, we wanted to take this opportunity to dive a little deeper.
Our strong, intelligent and beautiful women are instrumental in leading our teams and play major roles in shaping the way we work. Our COO, Matthew May, recently had the chance to sit down with two of Acuity’s leading ladies – Sammy Siddique, Cloud Accounting Team Lead and Lisa Gilreath, Controller Team Lead – to discuss their experience working with Acuity:
While our industry has improved in terms of providing equal employment opportunities for women, there is still work to be done. Although women make up roughly half of all accounting employees, only 21% are partners and only 11% of Fortune 500 CFOs are women. And, a recent Women’s Initiatives Executive Committee study found that the number of women in accounting tend to significantly decline as they move up the career ladder.
We at Acuity want to change that by providing women the mentorship, guidance and flexibility they need to lead long and thriving careers. Because we embrace cloud-based technology, the vast majority of our team has the ability to work remotely on their own schedules, needing only a laptop and internet connection to work.
